Flexibility

The total range of movement at a joint or series of joints in the body. Varies wildly between individuals and can be improved through regular stretching.


G

Ghrelin

A hormone in the body responsible for stimulating appetite and the secretion of growth hormone.


H

Hypertrophy

The term used to describe the increase in muscle size associated with muscle growth.


I

Isometric Contraction

A contraction where the muscle creates tension without changing length. For example, holding a wall squat.

Isotonic Contraction

A contraction where the tension in the muscle remains constant even as the muscle changes length. For example, lifting an object.
